I guess that Tag's problem with the Carrera is that they don't have a mid-end chrono caliber that would properly fit a new Carrera case, let's say at 39 or 40mm. I also guess that people in 2018 will not put more than 3000 CHF/USD in an eventual Carrera re-issue with a basic Sellita+DD chrono module when other brands offer in-house powered chronographs in the 4000+ CHF/USD range.
Therefore, they can't - for the moment - do like Omega with their 1861 or Zenith with their famous El Primero that can fit different case sizes/thickness/styles and let them be creative with re-issues, limited editions and so on.
