The Reference 404 is interesting . . . we see it as far back as circa 1940, and in the 1950s, it was the companion to the Ref 2444. Same basic case as the 2444, with the 2444 having three registers (V72) and the 404 having two registers (V23). Distinctive features of the 404 / 2444 are the rounded lugs and the very small pushers.
Most of the 404s have dauphine hands and thin metal markers . . . this one is the "Radium" version, with Arabic numerals and military style hands. I'm not sure whether it is a mongrel or maybe somewhat scarce. In any event, it looks good to my eye!!
The Reference 404s can be an affordable entry into the world of vintage Heuer chronographs. Have a look at the 404s, here -- http://www.onthedash.com/watches/reference-404/
