I remember some advice from a professional photographer (named Gordon Jolly), when we were out at Road Atlanta, on a day with very dark gray skies. This was circa 1994, in the pre-digital days.
I asked him "What do you do on a day like today?". His answer, "Save your film."
On that particular day, with the dark skies, there wasn't much to do, to make the cars look more attractive. Better to save the film (and the cost of processing) for a nicer day!!

: Light is the key to photography. When people ask me what camera I
: used to take a particular photo I always want to say "you
: should be asking me about the light." Using light/lighting
: to your advantage is key to good photography no mater whether
: you are using a phone camera or very expensive Hasselblad
: digital. After you get the light/lighting right, the camera can
: make a difference but until you get the lighting right the
: camera doesn't much matter.
