Brought my grandfathers chrono to a jeweler recommended here in Chicago, on Jeweler's Row downtown. They did a nice job with an old Speedmaster I brought in previously. During an extended wait for them to "find parts", they told me they would only need to replace the crystal and gasket. When I picked up the watch after crystal repair and cleaning, I noticed the crown had a bit more lug to it than the thinner, wider crown I remembered. Service personnel assured me it was the original. In comparing before/after photos, I remained concerned.

Today, I found the watch had stopped overnight. In attempting to set it, I pulled the crown and found only a one-stop for the time setting - no setting for the date... Now I'm really concerned.

Could Heuer have designed a time-date-chrono without the ability to adjust the date, without scrolling thru the entire month?

Would a jeweler have motivation to strip parts from a rare late 1960s chrono?
