Thanks, Jeff, for bringing this to our attention.
It's difficult to tell whether Mr. Bacs was trying to recount an actual story, about an actual watch, or whether this was a dramatization / illustration.
Assuming that it was an actual story -- If I had to guess the watch he might have been referring to, then the issue was not simply a matter of the bezel being replaced, but there were legitimate questions about the history of this particular watch (when it was made and by whom). And there were lots of whispers about this watch for several years (probably six or seven), but these were conversations among members of the community and not on any public forum. The whispers were not about the bezel, but about the entire watch having been "made" circa 2010. So his whole monologue about a restoration, with the bezel being replaced, was kind of strange to me.
It's difficult to be certain which watch he was discussing or what his complaint about the community / collectors might be. I would be happy to discuss this with anyone involved in the matter, who may have more facts.
