Hi,
I’m new to the forum and decided to purchase my first vintage piece: 1950’s Heuer Datemaster. I Paid $350 for the watch which needs a cleaning, but the dial is mint. I chose the watch, because I wanted an economical piece from a storied brand. Several questions popped up:
1.) Why are these watches not price competitive with Datejusts and Omega Bumpers (Seamaster) from the same period?
2.) Are these automatics worth putting money into? Range of $300-400.
3.) Could they ever reach a collector status, (e.g. an investment piece)? I remember when Boys Size Rolex watches could be had for under a thousand USD.
4.) How are these watches perceived by the watch collecting community, let alone the Heuer community?
I’ve read many threads over the past years, but mostly on newer Speedmaster’s or AirKing’s. This is more of an insecurity on my approach of using emotion over logic- seeing a good deal vs proper research. It’s small potato’s, but I’m hoping that my intuition is justified.
