This dial looked a bit funny to one of our readers, and in fact the auction house -- Henry's -- has confirmed that the dial has been refinished. Telltales of the refinished dial include the funky arrows at the top of the tachymeter scale, and the strange look of the "Camaro" and Heuer shield at the top of the dial. The "Camaro" font, in particular, is all wrong; the shield and the Camaro do not seem to line up properly; and the Heuer shield has some geometry problems. Also notice that the pushers are incorrect, perhaps telling us that this watch has some "history".
Henry's will proceed with the auction (being held tomorrow), and they suggest that they will provide bidders with the information, that the dial has been refinished, at the auction.
We're posting it here, just to be sure that our readers are aware. This is a rare and coveted version of the Camaro . . . a shame about the dial.
Here's a link to the auction catalog -- Henry's Catalog ID 25865618
