This, David, is over the top.

We're trying to maintain a forum where newcomers and veterans alike aren't shy about asking questions, even if those queries show some rookie tendencies.

Besides all of the polite reasons, one never knows when being helpful today will post amazing dividends in the future had you left out that extra sentence. I wish I could predict which "newbies" were going to become valued contributors early on, but I can't.

Here are a couple of similar posts/replies I've made 1 2 3 in the past..

I'm not saying that anyone needs to go to the depth of reply that I sometimes do, but rather, David, if you had left off your last sentence I would not have needed to post this message.

I was tempted to make this an Admin post, I don't think I need to put a finer point than this.

Let's please be nice until it is necessary to be not nice.
