Listing / Asking Price is Only the Beginning

Of course, the asking price in the listing is only the start of the discussion. Perhaps it is a signal to the market as to what the dealer believes the value of the watch to be.

The question is how the dealer responds to requests for information and good faith offers for the watch. We see some dealers with crazy prices and no willingness to be more realistic. So the Viceroy Autavia priced at $7,500 sits on the site, from one month (or year) to the next. We see other dealers who are willing to negotiate in good faith, to try to reach agreement on the price. Some dealers can command a premium because of their good reputations; others are penalized by discounts, because of their poor track record.

On this watch, if 12,000 euro is a little "optimistic", the question is how he responds to good faith offers. One thing for sure, this may be the best looking sample of this model that we have ever seen, so any seller is entitled to ask the top price. If the prospective buyer passes on this one, when will he find the next one in this condition? The answer -- never. So perhaps the "optimism" is realism, for the buyer who wants the very best watch.

: Hi Mark,
: I personally think this comment is not very gentleman like.
: Everyone has the right to ask whatever he wants. Just my opinion of
: course.
: So you think this watch is crazy overpriced?
: Allow me to disagree. Ok timing is not perfect.
: But if we make abstraction of that, this 73663 reference is really
: rare. And let's not forget the KAF engraving on the back making
: it even more rare.
: How many have you seen? I have seen more OB's and 1163 GMT Mark2
: than this watch.
: Is it therefore more valuable? Maybe. maybe not.
: But it's certainly not a crazy price like 95% of the watches I see
: on Chrono24 and Ebay.
: Do we comment on all these watches?
: If you ask me, this price is not crazy at all. And let's not forget
: Wouter is a young starting watch dealer with the right passion
: for watches.
: In the US people are supportive to young entrepreneurs. In Europe
: we think they live in lalaland.
: And to finalize, I think that watch looks stunning.
: Just my opinion of course.
: Have a nice weekend guys.
: B
