Take a look over there, but essentially no, it's fine to hand-wind a Caliber 12. It winds clockwise, and I found that turning the watch upside-down (face up) made it easier to wind like any other watch.
It does feel a bit gritty, but if it feels like you have to force the crown though, you may want to have a watchmaker take a look.
