When Heuer Dominated Racing -- Forghieri and Campiche

Here's a great photo posted on BlackbirdWatchManual -- https://www.instagram.com/blackbirdwatchmanual/

Caption is as follows:

    An Age of Elegance

In this day and age of uniforms emblazoned with sponsors' logos lining the pit wall, the attire of the teams of the 1970s is particularly refreshing. Jean Campiche can be seen sitting in the background at the controls of the Heuer Centigraph timing system Scuderia Ferrari used, and Mauro Forghieri, Technical Director of the Racing Department, is leaning over the wall, willing the drivers on with his wonderful sunglasses that are clearly of the era, and of course a gold Carrera reference 1158 on the wrist.

Of course, these are two of the legends of the Heuer world -- Mauro Forghieri was the lead designer for Ferrari, and wore the Carrera Reference 1158 CHN, in 18 karat gold, even while he was "at work"; Jean Campiche was head of timekeeping at Heuer, and worked with the Ferrari team.

We will miss the running of the Indianapolis 500 this week, but racing enthusiasts can look back to the glorious days of Heuer and Ferrari, teaming up in the 1970s.
