Great Topic -- And Here's How Dials Are Printed
In Response To: Heuer Carrera shield query... ()

Great topic for discussion.

As we begin looking for samples of these oddly-printed dials, perhaps worthwhile to review this posting, which shows how watch dials are printed -- https://quillandpad.com/2018/11/24/pad-printing-of-watch-dials-explained-reprise/

The process is called "pad printing", and it still requires some work to understand how the "Heuer" would be printed so poorly. As I understand it, the whole process starts with a large plate, on which there is engraved the Heuer shield and the word "Camaro" or "Carrera". Not sure how this plate would get so messed up / letters off center.

: Hi guys, I thought I'd throw this out-I had a quick look through
: the archives but couldn't immediately find anything on this.

: It is well-documented that the Heuer Camaro has the quirk of an
: off-centre 'Heuer' (U to the left) within the shield-

:

: Yesterday I spotted a Carrera 3647T with a similar quirk but
: off-centre to the right. Here are some (very nice) examples-

: 1 is it my eyes/a trick of the crystal or is it actually off-centre
: and if so, is this common knowledge already?

: 2 Is it just attributed to some/all 3647T models in a certain batch
: perhaps, or other Carreras also? (I admit I haven't looked in
: any great detail, other than to see it on the 3647T alone.)

: Maybe a new or forgotten piece of Heuer trivia.

: Thanks in advance,
: Steve
