In Response To: US$ 8500 in 2019 ()

Thanks, Peter. I feel you about vintage.

One of the issues I had with wearing the LE Siffert was that it was so new and shiny, and I had this weird feeling that it would be wrong to scratch it from normal use. After all, scratches happen, but then it wouldn't be pristine anymore.

On the other hand, I have a similar weirdness with my vintage watches, fearing that I don't want to do damage to a watch that's survived for 50 years until I got my hands on it. I see myself as the steward of great old watches and feel a responsibility to make sure they survive the brief time they spend in my custody.

And on the third hand, what use is a watch if not to wear?

Scott
