Old "Barn find"

I was in England as a young lad in 1976. My uncle gave me a watch. I knew it was something special, but really didn't know much about it. Wore it for a few years - shouldn't have let a 12 year old have one of these. Had to get it fixed a number of times, then finally gave up on it.

I didn't throw it away, but no matter where I moved to, I would put it in the back of some drawer in the house.

In January of this year I was glancing through a magazine. An article on vintage watches caught my eye. Sure enough, one of the pictured watches was mine.

I dug through my drawer and pulled out my watch. It wasn't working so I took it to our local authorized Heuer dealership. Of course, they couldn't do anything with it, but did send it to Switzerland.

Well, I just got my watch back last week. It now has a new crystal, some new hands, new luminescence and various other parts (Heuer sent all the used parts back). Heuer did a complete overhaul to it (at a cost of $875Cdn).

I am now the proud (new) owner of a vintage Heuer Autavia GMT. After looking around at this site, I think it's a later model 2446 (???).

As soon as I figure out how to take very close pics with my digital I'll post a picture.
