Waterproofing An Autavia ???

Hello Everybody, I am restoring my old Autavia - with replacement Dial, Pushers and Bezel. The first repair place I have checked it into for a quote say that they won't guarantee it for waterproof or even splashproof. Now I doubt if i will dive to a full 1000 ft with it - but I might like to be able to use it on a boat without worrying too much. I would have thought after servicing with all seals replaced it should be pretty much ok.. Am I wrong - is it just the case that old watches somehow lose their water resistance. Would I get better service results from an official TAG service centre.. I am in the U.K. but don't mind even sending my watch off to Switzerland if it gets results. Any words of wisdom much appreciated.

Warren..
