As I have mentioned before, one of the few advantages of being old is the fact that you have a head start on collecting all the vintage stuff. Here is a photo essay combining old watches and old model cars.

The cars date from the late 50s and were from an British company named Merit. They had a series of a dozen or so model Grand Prix cars (equivalent of Formula 1) and Sports Racing cars of the 1950s era. The only place in the USA that sold them (at $2.00 per kit) was a automobile bookseller named Robert Bentley. Unlike later kits that had different colors for things like chrome and tires all the pieces except for windscreens were molded in one color. This meant the tires, rims, trim etc. had to be brush painted on which was very tedious and trying.

First two pleasing oldies

And 2 newbies that are well designed in the vintage spirit.

Identifying the watches is fairly easy, but how many of the cars do you know? A helpfull hint is that European racing cars used to be painted in the colors of their country of origin and did not have all the advertizing plastered on making them look like billboards.

so:
Red = Italy,
Blue = France,
Green = England
