He makes a fair point about the importance of taste and discernment.
But I would bet that Mr McInerney doesn't really practice what he preaches--I'm sure he wrote this while sitting 50 feet away from a cellar full of three and four figure bottles.
And I'm sure there are plenty of wine snobs who are happy to share their very expensive bottles with Mr. Jay just to say that they did so.
As you might surmise, I'm not a huge fan of his writing either.
