Re: Does this TAG HEUER SEEM AUTHENTIC???

: I purchased this recently off of ebay. The pics
: looked OK, but I am not a TAG expert. In
: fact I know nothing serious about them.

: I notice the back of the watch has the model
: number above the tag crest? Is this NORMAL?
: In other words is this an authentic TAG
: HEUER?

: I'd appreciate any advise!

I have to disagree; I think you've been had. I've worn this same model of TAG for over 15 years, and mine is pristine compared to this one (especially the back: how would a piece of Heuer quality materials get so trashed on the back? I haven't seen the serial number engraved above the crest, although I have heard that some early examples of this models had numbers similarly placed. Most dramatically, the TAG crest on my watch is VERY deeply engraved--it won't wear unless I drive over it. The crest on yours appears to be so scuffed and worn as to be nearly indecipherable. Although the parts look good in the photo, I again doubt the quality of the materials (ref the steel case: all the printing on mine remains perfectly/clearly incised; yours has practically disappeared). Also, if yours says "water resistant" on the face, it's definitely a fake: the genuine piece says only "professional" above the "200 meters".
There are several websites that specialize in detecting various fake models of TAGs; eBay also often has similar articles.
Last but not least, the price is tough to believe--although if it's beat-up as it looks, it may be legit. Prices usually run $650-$750 for this old a timepiece.
Let your favorite watchmaker replace the battery on this, and you'll get the definitive verdict: the parts and movement quality is instantly detectible (Swiss from Japanese) when the watch is opened up.
Good luck!

: Thanks so much!
