No different than Sniping etc..

The winning bidder is the one who bids the most . If Omega bids the most they put it in their museum . They do not make a second chance offer to try and get the most they can for it . If they lose, the top bidder out bid Omega. All live auctions with a reserve have the house bid and again the bidder that pays the most, wins . Just like an Ebay auction only everyone knows when it's a reserve auction . So what does it matter if you are out bid by someone in Asia or someone with Omega ?

: especially since this has become common
: practice among some greedy watch brands...

: I'm glad I've never bought a new watch from an
: AD... they can keep them...

: hopefully Omega and the others will feel a
: backlash from these tactics...

: cheers,

: Peter
