On Conrad Dobler
In Response To: Well you all know me... ()

Chuck
Hope you fare better than Mr. Dobler. Here's an update on The Meanest Man in the NFL from Wikipedia with an add from me in parens.

Dobler paid a high price for his NFL career. Today Dobler is 90% disabled having suffered through numerous operations to repair his battered body, (suffering a staph infection that nearly cost him his leg and an embolism that almost killed him) Still in need of further surgeries Dobler, like many other disabled NFL veterans, has been unable to gain disability assistance from the NFL Players Union.
On April 5, 2007, The Buffalo News reported that as a result of falling out of a hammock in 2001 Dobler's wife Joy became a quadraplegic. Substantial medical bills for Joy's care have put the Dobler family in financial hardship, to the point they could no longer pay for their academically gifted daughter, Holli, to attend college. After champion golfer Phil Mickelson heard of the Dobler family situation on ESPN, Mickelson volunteered to pay for Holli's college education at Miami University in Ohio.
