YES -- Heuer Made "Modena"
In Response To: Heuer Modena ()

I have previously confirmed with the TAG-Heuer folks in Switzerland that Heuer did, in fact, produce a model called the Modena. I am told that they have at least one sample in the Heuer archives.

I believe that it was almost identical to the Monza in every respect, except for the model name on the dial (same case, color scheme, hands, movement, etc.). I have heard the theory that Heuer began manufacturing these under the the "Modena" name, but then switched the name to "Monza" because Monza was more widely known around the world (as the home of the Italian Grand Prix).

Modena was the center of Italy's high-end automobile industry, being the birthplace of Enzo Ferrari, home to the Lamborghini, de Tomaso and Maserati factories, and just down the road from the most famous factory of all -- Ferrari's in Maranello. (I believe that the Ferrari factory was originally in Modena, but moved to Maranello in the 1940's.)

In terms of the sample that you referenced -- recently listed on ebay -- to me, that looked like a Carrera with a Modena dial. I am trying to get additional information, but I believe that the Modena came in a black case, with black inner bezel.

Thanks for the interesting question . . . We hope to have additional information soon OnTheDash.

Jeff
