Great Watches; Great Weekend in Monterey
In Response To: Monterey Historics, part III ()

thanks for sharing these photos of these fantastic watches!!

yes, these are the "real things" . . . the watches that the racers wore during the golden age of racing, before the days of ambassadors and promotional contracts.

I have been to the Monterey Weekend four or five times, and wish that I could join you out there . . . races, auctions, street life, beautiful weather, great food, etc . . . clearly the best racing weekend of the year, for those of us here in the US of A. Enjoy the weekend, and keep your eyes open for the watches!!

It was in Monterey, circa 1996, that I saw my very first Heuers, in the metal (Rally Master pair and vintage Monaco, both priced in the $1,200 range)!!

: If you have been to the "Racer's Only" section of
: OnTheDash, then you've seen this watch before. Tony Adamowicz
: was awarded this watch for winning the Trans Am Championship in
: 1968, driving a Porsche 911. MotorAge Magazine was a title
: sponsor for the Trans Am in 1968. Mark Donohue won the over 2.5
: championship, while Tony won the under 2.5. They only gave one
: "Driver of the Year" award, and that went to Tony, not
: Mark. I don't think Heuers get much cooler than this. But that's
: my opinion, being a life-long race fan.
