Thanks, Chuck / Autavia GMT

probably the best definition and explanation of "fake" i've ever read!

special thanks to Chuck Maddox, for helping me fine-tune this definition of what is and is not a "fake". it can get very philosophical, and Chuck can really help work through these points.

also thanks to Chuck for the help in designing the page. I am learning to do these fancy tables, and Chuck's HTML's skills can quickly transform a rough draft into an elegant finished page.

has anyone had the chance to see the cal 11 autavia gmt with the tachy bezel on ebay yet?? what do you think? a gallery winner or no?

well, J.H., this is an odd one.

seller claims that this is a GMT movement, but that the GMT hand is simply missing. He says that there is an additional hub for the GMT hand.

he first claimed that the GMT was issued with either a GMT bezel [ well, we knew that ] or a Tachy bezel [ that was news to me ]. on further inquiry, he says that the bezel insert may have been replaced.

So if all this is true, and you happen to have a GMT hand and a bezel insert laying around, this might be a bargain. I don't have either of these pieces, so I confirm that I will not be bidding.

Based on all this, it does not qualify for the Gallery of Fakes. Now, if it turns out that that extra hub is missing . . .
