This goes back to a discussion that we have had before -- the big, prestigous auction houses have the experts for Patek, Rolex, Vacheron, etc., but the Heuers that they offer are often trouble. The Heuers are typically auctioned in the earlier lots, something like "filler", so that they can say that there were over 700 lots offered in the auction. I believe that the auction houses usually have good intentions, and would not damage their reputations for the sake of the commission on these low-priced pieces. Still, they simply do not have the experts in Heuers (and similar brands) and Heuer probably does not help itself, in that it does not have good records or documents relating to the watches that it produced in this era.
If we saw this one offered on ebay, we would laugh and wonder how it was put together; when offered by Antiquorum, there is a presumption that it is OK, but this presumption is quickly overcome when we inspect the watch and the history.
