An Observation re Express / Next Day Air
In Response To: Re: Shipping from US to the UK ()

without going into the tougher issues of customs declarations and insurance coverage, let me add the observation that packages that use the highest classes of service (such as UPS Next Day Air or FedEx International Priority or whatever-else-they-might-be-called) seem to spend a lot less time in the customs clearance process than the packages that are moving more slowly. I have received some FedEx and UPS packages that showed no signs of even having been processed by customs. Maybe the paperwork and clearance was done behind the scenes, but when the packages are going fast, they seem a lot less likely to be scrutinized in customs (or stolen by workers or sitting in warehouses) . . . for me, the express charges are a good investment!!

: Difficult to do in today's climate- with the devaluation of the
: dollar. You might try labelling the item as a gift, but you'd
: still want to make sure the value was reasonably high for
: insurance purposes in case of loss or theft. The rules are
: definitely getting tighter...
