Cal.11 Blocking lever - where's it gone?!

While I had my early project Monaco open I noticed something didn't look right.
Comparing it to a Siffert Cal 11 it appears that I don't have a blocking lever...part 8200.
However the watch runs great, including the chrono.
What goes on inside the watch is largely still a black art to me so I haven't got a clue what the blocking lever does(?)
Is it essential? Might it never of been there? Should I get one fitted? Have I chucked the plot and could it be hiding behind something else?
A visit to a professional watchmaker is due but wouldn't mind knowing...
Thanks,
AndyO...
