Re: Help identifying an Autavia 73663

Hi Mark

Thank you for your very detailed and swift response.

I have a watch that is a hybrid of the 1st and 2nd pictures that you have posted along with the hands of the last watch!

It has the bezel, hour markers and arabic numerals of the first watch with the identical 3 subdials of the second watch and the hands of the last watch that you referred me to by way of the hyperlink. Most bizarre! The colour of the hour indexes and hands are also more the orange of the 2nd and 3rd photos than the red of the first, although the different shades could indeed have something to do with ageing.

I will do more reading on the links that you have provided and will post pictures on Sunday when I am back home and can. My overall impression of the watch having handled a number of varieties over the years is that it is genuine. There is some nice detailing on the crown and leather strap buckle that would tend to also confirm this. I will also be getting my local watchmaker to crack the case open next week to make the repairs and service it and be sure to get shots of the movement.

Best
Wayne

: Hi, and welcome to the forum.

: Does it look like the ones below by any chance?

:

: If so, these have been a topic of discussion quite frequently in
: the forum - most recently on this thread:

: They're still something of an object of mystery to us, I feel,
: though the Autavia experts may want to jump in and correct me!

: There's a whole gallery of them at
: http://www.onthedash.com/Guide/_Chronographs/62.Autavia/i.Manual--Later_Style/x_Mysterious_Autavias/
: . If you could post photos of another one at some later point,
: it would help the investigation...

: The rest of the 73663s are in this gallery:

: The hands you describe sound like the ones on this watch:
