But kind of odd that none of the other numerals are faded on Andreas' example, whereas the fade looks a bit more uniform on yours Amer.

It really does look like it was never there. Though I might be seeing a strange circular mark just to the left of where it would be. Interesting mystery and nice watch regardless Andreas!
