The 110.253 and 255 were introduced in 77/8 and the last Cal 11s should long have been used by then, as is shown by the model row for this watch in the Carrera table, E-36.

Jeff, the table on the Carrera page http://www.onthedash.com/Guide/_Chronographs/63.Carrera/ is still the original table and does indeed give Cal 11 for this model, though if I remember the old tables didn't make a distinction, showing Cal 11 for all variants including 12.
