My first Ebay acquisition

Looking on a regular basis the Heuer stuff for sale on Ebay and considering the potential risk of never receiving the item I paid for, or a counterfeit or whatever junk it could be, I swore I’d never buy a Heuer on Ebay.
But we all know we never should say never…

And here it is, my new Skipper 15640 received today from a Ebay seller just out of its box:

Overall, I would say this Skipper is in good to very good original condition.
Case and bezel appear to be unpolished although they show evidence of worn with some little dings and scratches here and there, but nothing bad.
Case-back has more scratches but this is not the most critical area.
Crown and pushers are just fine.
Dial and hands are faultless.
Glass shows 2 little scratches, again nothing serious.
The jubilee bracelet is as it should with correct end-links.
Clasp is a 1st generation Tag Heuer replacement one, as stated in the seller’s pictures.
When one looks at the dial it seems a bit faded which is due to some minor condensation effects.
The watch keeps very good time since 10 hours I received it, the chrono resets crisply to zero.

This Skipper will go to my watchmaker next Tuesday for a full service including oils change, crown, pushers and case back sealing replacement, interior/exterior deep cleaning, a gentle glass polish, some custom straps are on their way too….

At the end of the day this first Ebay experience is very satisfying to me.
The watch is really fine and original especially when I consider the really fair price which allowed me to reach the winning bid.
I’ll definitely keep my eyes wide opened on the Bay but will stay cautious with uncertain sellers or items we often see…

All the best,

Laurent
