Carrera 12 Dato -- Crown Too Big ? ? ?

A reader has sent photos of this Carrera 12 Dato, purchased by a family member in the late 1960s, in Asia. This family member -- who was the original purchaser of the watch -- insists that this was the crown on the watch, when he bought it. Obviously, this crown is entirely different from any in our Carrera 12 Dato Gallery -- http://onthedash.com/Guide/_Chronographs/63.Carrera/c.Carrera_12_Dato/b.Ref_2547N/ -- and also unlike any Heuer crown that I can recall seeing.

OK, experts . . . what is the explanation? Changed out during servicing (and original owner is not recalling things correctly)? Original dealer had a problem with the watch and switched out the crown, before our first owner bought it? Unusual execution that found its way into a particular Asian market? Something else?

Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.

Jeff
