Re: Markets inside markets?
In Response To: Markets inside markets? ()

Interesting point Lucas, we have moved the collectors market to new very potential buyers, who are big car collectors and touched the Rolex and Patek guys.
Paul Maudsley Head of Bonhams watch department, TAG Heuer and myself have invested an awful lot of time and money to rebuild the vintage Heuer brand to new standards.
You will never have again such a well documented (2 books, leading watch journalists, car magazines, FT, Forbes, Hodinkee, onthedash, vintage Heuer, vetroplastica, specialist websites and around 100 publications worldwide) hence these 81 pieces will always have a special standing and many pieces have been unique in itself....
The chapter is closed now and with the auction book we have added a lot of additional information to the market such as the flat V Autavia, catalog informations, leaflets, drivers pics....
There are a few books left with Bonhams so catch one if you can.
I have produced a fantastic Heuer calendar together with designers digest for 2011 with some amazing touch feel printings and will realease some order details very soon.
I don't think you will see many watches on ebay as most of the top end buyers are no forum guys, nor ebay junkies and bought the watches to keep or put into museums.
Has somebody from OTD bought a watch or have you been passengers of the day like I was ?
The auction room was really packed, vibrant and the interest in our beloved Heuers was just amazingly strong which made me very happy for all the collectors coming from 18 different nations ! The evening reception went well and the dinner in Soho house was a great meeting point. Sorry for the guys, who could not make it !
We had a lot of great feedback from collectors, buyers and I have seen many smiling faces on the 15th.
We are planning some new Heuer events for 2011 and will keep you posted as soon as we have some dates.
Hope to see you all again in 2011 and happy Heuer hunting !
Best Arno

: I was wondering how long it would take but I actually expected the
: first Haslinger 'piece' on the bay to be a watch!

: Putting other thoughts aside about this listing, does this confirm
: that Arno has achieved something (extraordinary) that is much
: longer lasting (than at least I initially foresaw) from the
: auction than the day itself? Could this amount to the first post
: auction indication (I have seen) of a, though very small, sub
: market? I suppose many of the auction prices could in themselves
: support the proposition of a Haslinger sub market and any
: subsequent sales will simply confirm that that was achieved on
: the day. If that is right, are there other examples of pieces
: from individual collections developing into sub markets? I know
: celebrity collections/pieces often attract premiums. If I am
: taking this too far, I think we all expect to see 'Haslingers'
: crop up for sale from time to time - the smart sellers might
: throw in a copy of the book! [Should we also expect to see
: Heuers for sale 'as seen at the Bonhams auction.'?]
