Yes, you are absolutely right. On first glance I thought the dial looked odd and after a quick search, I ruled out a redial. Having checked my examples it is possible to fit the smaller dial into the larger case because the 42mm version has an inner tension ring reducing the visible portion of the dial. I concur and compliment you on your detective skills.
