Where to get Carrera repaired?

I've got a Carrera I inherited from my dad. From comparing pictures on this website it looks like a 2447s standard. It stops working at times, and the winder gets hard to wind after about 4-5 rotations. I took it to a little watch shop and was told I should take it to a specialty shop, since it's so complex. I took it to a local jewelry story and they quoted me about $300 to go through the watch and clean/repair. I'm not opposed to spending them money for repair, but since it seems to be a specialty watch, I'm thinking I'd rather take it to a shop that knows the watch. Any ideas what to look for in a watch shop? I'm located near Sacrament, Ca.
Thx
