"Fab Suisse" -- Not Sure Why We See It

I'm not sure why it was printed on the dials of Heuers, but we do see "Fab Suisse" on the Autavias, Carreras and some of the "no name" chronographs from the 1950s and 1960s. I think I once heard that this was required for Swiss watches being sold into the French market, but I have never researched the point.
