Helmet Alarm Clock Malfunction - any ideas?

Guys,
My Lauda Alarm clock is acting strange.
Works great, keeping good time...but only on it's back or upside down :-)
If upright it'll run for a few minutes then stop - if I touch it slightly it restarts and runs again for another couple of minutes.
Any ideas?
My main problem is getting into the thing.
I can remove the hands, dial and front plastic cover you see in the centre.
I'm just not sure how to get into the bit on the right that does all of the work.
I assume its from the back but then the problem is removing the crown on the back(?)
Any help appreciated,
AndyO...
