Re: Old Autavia ("Kerr" on Dial), Sold at $3,916

Gianvittorio makes a very passioate point in his reply below. I tend to agree but will hark back to a point i made a couple of days ago - "Origin of the species" ! Aside from their elegant design simplicity these 1st execution case Autavia's are the father of the entire popular Autavia series, elements of this watch were present all the way upto the last Autavia's of the mid 80's. That makes them even more important to collectors.

I feel this early Autavia sold at the higher end of the price range i expected for it ($3600-4200).
It has plenty of patina & a well faded bezel but all the significant parts are correct & in place (even if the hand lume seems different). The addition of the Kerr name on the dial didn't greatly effect the bidders determination in this case. There has been a number of these early co-branded Autavia's surface now - A&F, Turler, Grublen, Kingon, Kerr etc... But the top price level for these rare beauties is for the pure Heuer badged watches.
For the one that just sold on eBay to have acheived a higher price i beleive it would have needed to be either only Heuer marked on the dial, in better condition OR the earlier big register version.
Cheers - Darren

: First execution screw-back case, second execution dial . . . sold
: at $3,916.

: Did anyone ever figure out the "Kerr" on the dial . . .
: corporate gift or jewelry store?

: In any event, a strong price for what appeared to be an unmolested
: original watch [with a possible question about the mismatched
: time-of-day hands].
