It would take some time with our rather limited collection of 1940s catalogs to determine the exact reference number, but one thing that I can say is that it's a beauty!! And, being powered by either the Vajoux 71 or Valjoux 72 movement, it's highly likely that you will be able to get the movement repaired, so that the chronograph will again operate perfectly.

This is a great looking Heuer . . . I love the contrast between the dial, the outer track and the hands, and it all looks original to my eye.

Most important of all, this will be a great way to remember your father with a little machine that should provide aesthetic beauty and reliable timekeeping for more generations to come.

: Hi folks ... I'm not much of a watch expert myself, but my father
: passed recently and left some very vintage nice watches to me,
: probably from the 50s and 60s -- Cartier, Piaget, Vacheron
: Constantin. However, I also found this watch which seemed to be
: something of a castoff ... it was in a separate box with some
: other assorted things -- Dunhill cigarette lighters and
: cigarette case, a couple of war medals, etc. -- on a very cheap
: stretch metal band which looked like an old Spiedel. It's a
: 3-dial Heuer chrono, with a coppery gold face, gold hour and
: minute hands, and a blue sweep hand and blue hands on the darker
: gold subdials. There are two rectangular buttons for the chrono
: functions.

: The watch, which I am certain has not been wound for decades,
: actually seems to work perfectly, it's ticking away and has kept
: good time for the last few days. I've put it on a brown leather
: band for now and I like it a lot. However, the big sweep chrono
: hand is stuck at 1 o'clock and the reset buttons on the chrono
: portion don't do anything or reset the hands. I have noticed
: that the lower reset button won't depress unless the top button
: is depressed once. The subdial for seconds is working, but the
: other two are frozen at noon.

: The crystal is very scratched, and the back is completely blank and
: has some scratches. I'm not sure of the value, and not sure if
: it would be worth restoring (or if anyone can point me toward
: someone who does that). I think it's quiet beautiful and would
: like to wear it as my personal watch in honor of my dad.
