My Response to the Census
  1. Name (or nickname) and location [or you can tell us that this is private]

    Jeff Stein; Atlanta, Georgia

  2. In terms of the Heuers, what is the focus of your collection and approximately how many watches are in your collection? We can use ranges, as follows: Micro-collection -- 5 watches or less; Small collection -- between 6 and 10; Medium -- between 11 and 25; Large -- over 25, less than 50; Very large -- over 50. [again, feel free to tell us that this is private / personal]

Focus . . . focus . . . Let's see, what in the world does that word mean? OK, I think I've got it . . . the elevator speech / executive summary of what I collect: I collect vintage Heuer chronographs, focusing on (a) the Autavias from any era (except that I'm not a big fan of some of the later ones), (b) the 1960s Carreras (pre-automatic), and (c) four favorite Monacos. Over the last decade, I have owned a couple of hundred Heuer dashboard timers [not at any one time, I should add], but that collection is now down to the "Best-of-the-Best", meaning that I have favorite samples of most of the models. By almost any measure, my collection is "very large".

  3. What other brands of watches (or other type of objects) do you collect?

I have some favorite models from the other major chronograph brands of the 1960s, including Omega, Breitling, Zenith and Gallet, as well as some Sinns from later periods. I dabble in Seikos, and own one Citizen and two Rolexes (early Explorer and a bubble-back). Previously I have collected vintage pens (mainly Sheaffer "Balances" from the 1930's); when the champagne bottles are empty, we toss them [into the recycling bin].

  4. Do you own any TAG Heuers, and are they "vintage" (older) or modern?

Four TAG Heuers at the moment: From the modern era, I have a Monaco re-issue, Silverstone re-issue, and Carrera Cal 1887 [which is my favorite of the three]. My Spirotechnique dive watch is marked "TAG Heuer", but is very much a "Heuer".
