As Jeff said, the C-number was put on by/for Cuanillon, Heuer's distributor in Switzerland at the time.

As for the watch only having a serial marked and not a reference, this is how the watches were marked for most of the 60s, with the reference only being added to later watches. I have a Carrera Dato 45 with a serial pretty close to this Autavia (880xx) and it doesn't have a reference marked either. So nothing to worry about.
