Yea, if you are at all handy you know that simple green is great on just about everything. Another thing I have used on melted gaskets is Goof Off 2 (don't get the regular i.e. no #2, it's rather harsh). You can find it in the paint section of your hardware store it's primarily used to remove dried latex paints.
