Are the Heuer Carreras of the 70's waterproof?

I was reading an article that said all the carrera chronographs were water resistant. I find this odd though since they were fixed with a plexi-crystal instead of a mineral or saphire crystal. Is this true that the 70's Carreras were water-resistant?
