Weren't Foyt and Gurney the first to spray that Champagne? Consider this: Two weeks before Lemans, Foyt won the Indy 500. He never saw le Sarthe before the Tuesday before the race. He hops in a Ford Mk IV which was largely an American car engineered by Kar Kraft with Gurney and they win. Days later, Gurney hops in his Gurney Eagle and wins the Formula 1 race at the notoriously challenging Spa circuit.

Amazing times. That must have been great to see those two!
