I don't agree. The '77 Heuer catalog shows the red on the left and the white on the right. My very original Monza is also that way.

It would make more sense - the red hand contrasting with the white register, and the white hand contrasting with the red sectors of the minute register.

I think I remember a discussion about this a while back on this forum, but I don't remember the outcome.
