Tag Heuer Factory Service Question... Posted By: Brian A [Date: 12/9/04 12:40 GMT]

I have one of my watches out for a total service...here's what Tag said:

  • Replace Battery
  • New Back Gasket
  • New Crystal
  • Lube job on Movement
  • Cost:$140.00

Here's the question: Why replace a perfect or near perfect sapphire crystal, NOT replace the crown tube gasket, and NOT polish the case??

I'm not the person with the answers... Someone at TAG-Heuer is... But I know that in many cases service centers won't polish a watch unless the owner specifies they wish it to be done. There are so many overpolished vintage watches on the secondary market and "bold edged and frosty flats" examples are most avidly sought after, so unless you didn't specify for the case to be polished, I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

I can't answer the crown tube gasket query, you'll have to contact them directly on that point.

Do they polish the case? Is it included? I don't get it....anyone shed any light on this? It's not the price....the crystal in my Omega is more than this whole service alone, so it's not that....just doesn't seem prudent. Please let me know what your experience is....

With Pro-Time in the past, I've had to wave them off repairs because the price was starting to get ridiculous not the other way around. It sounds like Pro-Time has changed there policies and methods since I last used them.

Cheers!
