That would certainly explain why this version doesn't appear in any of the catalogs.
I suppose if someone could carefully control the discoloration / aging process, he could come up with some interesting and rare variations.
It's difficult to tell from the photos, but I'm still guessing that this was a "factory" color. It just looks too good to have occured through moisture damage or some other external source.
We will await further information and opinions.
