Re: Big News in F1 -- TAG Heuer Moving from McLaren to Red B

Leaving McLaren for RedBull doesn't make sense to me. I would have understood if they left F1 altogether OR they would sponsor individual drivers (like Max Verstappen) rather than teams.
What exposure will they get under the dominance of Mateschitz? Or is exactly that association with RedBull that Biver feels will give TH wings? RB guzzling teenagers?

Biver gambled on the ConWatch and it fell utterly flat, it just failed to deliver innovativation. Overpriced and technically below par it was butchered by the gadgets press. Bungle the introduction and they'll simply move on to the latest and greatest next new thing, as do the customers. Without the gadgets crowd where will he find the buyers? He won't find them in his existing retail channel... and TH isn't selling (or even taking orders) online, simply redirecting to "locate a retailer". C'mon! What percentage of potential customers WITH disposable income will drive to a retailer to indulge in a whim. The rest will move on when they can't click to buy.

Biver's other costly mistake was the new logo. All mechanical watches were obsolete on the day the new logo appeared on screen. And in the six months since nothing has changed. Ronaldo, Cara, Sharapova or Garrix: nothing mattered: Old logos on the watch and new logos on the page. Utterly confusing. Just checked the most recent pictures I could find. Group shots with Garrix in front of CdF building..staff still have old logos on their labcoats and Biver is again wearing a silly suit. Can't see if they changed the shield on the building.

Nope. I'm not a BeBiver.

Jurgen.

: Now I know why I don't like the picture o41 Ricciardo in the Steve
: McQueen overall. (Nothing against Ricciardo!)
: Biver should not throw away TAGHeuer's history. It was the idea of
: Babin to focus on history.
: Not to forget future with the Monaco V4 etc.. He had two strategies
: in parallel.
: In other forums I read contributions, meaning that the readers
: could not understand that TAGHeuer now has younger ambassadors
: (David Guetta is an example). The result sometimes was that
: somebody said "Who is David Guetta?". Others replied:
: We are old now, so they have to find acceptance with younger
: people. This is certainly correct.
: But otherwise: Can Biver afford to abandon history?
: Of course, Red Bull is a young F1-team, com0pared to others. And I
: can understand, that TAGHeuer don't want to see the TAGHeuer
: logo in the cellar of F1. But destroying bridges to history? I
: don't know. McLaren always survived, even after the accident of
: Bruce McLaren (I admit I'm old, 59 years). Probably times have
: changed.
