Heuer created the word "Autavia" to remind customers that their dashboard-mounted 12-hour timer could be used for timing either Automobiles or Aviation. The link below will take you to a Heuer catalog from 1942, which explains the use of the Autavia for these purposes.


Here are photographs of the earliest version of the dashboard Autavia (from the mid-to-late 1930's) and the earliest version of the Autavia chronograph (from around 1962).
