4,932 Days Later – Announcing the Arrival of the Camaros

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am pleased to announce that 4,932 days after we launched OnTheDash (February 12, 2003), we have completed the Camaro section of the website. That’s right, now you can visit the Camaro section, to see 46 different models and executions of this most vexing of all the vintage Heuers.

Huge thanks to three generations of contributors. Shaun Wainstein got the ball rolling in 2005, with the beginnings of a Camaro reference table. Mark Moss advanced the cause in 2009, with some further additions to the reference table.

Then, in December 2015, round three of the effort to catalog the Camaros began, with Steve Perry and Andee (of Rarebirds fame), suggesting that we collaborate to complete this project. Andee provided all his photos of the Camaros, and Steve and I have been trying to make sense of the photos and the old Heuer catalogs ever since.

Some of you may be wondering whether we have a Reference Table for the Camaros, and the answer is “yes” and “no”. Yes, we have a reference table showing all the details of the 46 versions of the Camaro, but this reference table is in an entirely new format. This new style of reference table presents over 30 fields of data for each of the models (including movement, measurements, details of the dial and hands, serial number ranges, etc.), But “no”, we are not yet ready to publish this Camaro reference table, as we will use new technology and new capabilities to present all this information. Don’t worry folks, you have been waiting 13-1/2 years for the Camaro section, what another couple of months for the reference table.

Special thanks go to Steve Perry for his amazing work in bringing the Camaro section of OnTheDash and the Camaro reference table to completion. Over the last couple of months, we have exchanged messages almost every day, trying to solve the mysteries of the Camaro, and Steve has done the lion’s share of the detective work.

As always, this new Camaro section is a work in progress. We will welcome any comments, suggestions or corrections. Let me also point out that most of the galleries showing the Camaros have very few photos showing samples of the watches. Rest assured that we have hundreds of great photos of the Camaros, and will “populate” the galleries after we are confident that we have accurately presented the models and executions.

So thanks again to all our collaborators and I hope that all our readers will enjoy this new section of OnTheDash.
