Hi Mark,
I think the only model without a caseback was the Easy rider - Jacky Ickx model, but that one had a non signed crown. As Paolo already mentioned the snap type stem was dedicated for the Monaco. Probably the previous owner found the right crown for his Monaco, but left the stem on this one.
